Inkjet Ink Cartridges - UK Ink Supplies

Start your search for inkjet ink cartridges here at UK Ink Supplies. Prices are up to 70% lower compared to buying original inkjet ink cartridges at your local shop.

Brother Canon Dell Epson HP Lexmark

Ink Cartridges are integral parts of Inkjet printers supplying them with a continuous flow of new Ink.

Article chapters:

    1. What is an Inkjet Ink Cartridge?
    2. What is a Compatible Ink Cartridge?
    3. What is an Original Ink Cartridge?
    4. What is a Remanufactured Ink Cartridge?

About Inkjet Ink Cartridges

Ink Cartridges act as ink tanks for inkjet printers and sometimes contain a printhead and one or more chips for printer communication and status indication.

Printers from manufacturers Lexmark, HP and Dell often have ink cartridges with an integrated printhead, while Brother, Epson and Canon ink cartridges consist of just an ink tank with some basic technology. The cost of the ink cartridge is greatly affected by the location of the printhead. By placing it in the cartridge, the cartridge price goes up since complexity is added to the manufacturing process, electronic components and wiring needs to be added.

In most cases there is one separate container for black ink and separate containers for Cyan, Magenta and Yellow ink. Versions of containers also exist where Cyan, Magenta and Yellow ink all are encased in the same ink cartridge unit. Out of these four colours all other colours in the colour spectrum can be created during the printing process.

Compatible Ink Cartridges

Compatible Ink Cartridges are produced by third party manufacturers, such as Jet Tec.

The debate has been running high in the last years on whether or not compatible ink is as good as original ink. Pros and cons arguably exist for both cartridge types. We at UK Ink Supplies sincerely believe that compatible ink is the best choice for all users for all types of printing. Also, many Jet Tec ink cartridges are available with up to 100% Extra Life!

Independent research from TrustedReviews actually shows that reviewers generally prefer compatible ink over OEM Original ink.

Just remember that print quality is not just dependent on the ink quality, but also on the printer and the paper being printed on. To achieve good results, all these factors need to be accounted for.

We recommend you to buy from well known and long established ink stores such as UK Ink Supplies, that have the credibility and the product and refund policies to back you up.

Read more about Compatible Cartridges

Original Ink Cartridges

OEM/Original Ink Cartridges are produced by the printer manufacturer themselves. A significant part of the printer makers' profit actually comes from selling the ink and not the printer. Did you know that Inkjet Ink is probably the most expensive liquid per volume you will ever buy? It's actually more expensive than Champagne, Perfume and Petrol and other expensive substances that come to your mind!

Read more about OEM Cartridges.

Remanufactured Ink Cartridges

Remanufactured Ink Cartridges are produced from recycled materials. Buying this cartridge type is not only good for your wallet but also for the environment since this reduces waste and energy consumption. Read more about the environmental savings in our Remanufactured Cartridges article
article.

A fourth option is to buy an ink refill kit so that you can refill your empty ink cartridges yourself. Remember that empty cartridges are best refilled while they are still fresh. If they are empty and unused for too long, there is a risk that your print head (if applicable) has been clogged up.

During the years, a large array of products spanning from almost every corner of the information technology field have been produced by HP.

The History of Dell

Michael Dell founded his company 1984 in a student room in Austin, with a startup capital of a mere 00. The concept was to eliminate the middle man and sell computers directly to customers. That way they could sell at lower prices, and by offering complete systems, the customer would not have to assemble the computer themselves. While Dell wasn’t first with this idea, they were one of the first to succeed with it financially. By the 1990s, Dell had become one of the largest computer companies, and had expanded overseas.

After the year 2000, the company expanded into other markets, such as television, projectors, digital audio players and printers. In recognition of this, the company changed its name from “Dell Computer Corporation” to just “Dell Inc.” in 2003. That same year, the company entered the printer market, after a deal with Lexmark. Lexmark would then manufacture the printers to be sold under the Dell brand name.

The printers sold by Dell include laser printers and all-in-one inkjet printers that combine printing, scanning and faxing.

Canon Ink Cartridges - UK Ink Supplies

Finding Canon Printer Cartridges is easy here at UK Ink Supplies. We currently have hundreds of different Canon Cartridges to offer you including both Canon branded and Jet Tec branded cartridges - the leading UK manufacture of compatible Canon ink cartridges.

The History of Canon

Canon is a Japanese multinational corporation that specialises in the manufacture of imaging and optical products, including cameras, photocopiers, steppers and computer printers.

Canon started out as an Optical Instruments Laboratory in 1937 out of an office in Tokyo, Japan. The aim of the founders (Goro Yoshida and Saburo Uchida) was to manufacture cameras and take up competition with the existing German manufactures. One of their first produced cameras was called Kwanon, this name was later re-used when the company looked for a more modern and better fitting international name, hence the name Canon.

Canon entered the printer field in 1975 when they successfully developed a laser beam printer. One of the most famous inventions of Canon is the discovery of the Bubble Jet technology. This is one of two used technologies within the inkjet printing field with Epson’s piezoelectric technology being the other one. The Bubble Jet works by using heat which produce pressure that ejects ink on to the paper media.

Today, Canon is one of the largest suppliers within the printer market, offering inkjet printers, laser printers, scanners and dot matrix printers for every use from the home to commercial printing.

The Canon printer product line of today includes the Canon BJ, Canon BJC, Canon I, Canon Pixma and Canon S series.

The History of Inkjet Printers - UK Ink Supplies

The Inkjet Challenge

Inkjet printers using ink cartridges have certainly come a long way in the last two decades. And although we didn’t see them in the stores until the 1980s, it was as far back as the mid 1970s when printer companies first recognised that inkjet technology was going to be the wave of the future. However initially, companies were faced with the challenge of creating an inkjet printer that was affordable while at the same time could provide quality printouts for users. The more popular type of inkjet printer was invented by Siemens in 1977. These printers, sprayed ink only where needed and although they were less expensive, they were slower than continuous inkjet printers.

Companies Overcome Inkjet Challenges

One of the biggest challenges when creating inkjet printers was controlling the flow of ink from the printhead onto the page. At first, the print head became clogged with dried ink. IBM used electrically-charged droplets to coat the page with ink but this strategy wasted a lot of ink and the technology didn’t appeal to consumers. Eventually, these challenges were met by Canon and Hewlett Packard (HP) in the late 1980s, when liquid inkjet printers came to the market in full swing. But before getting quality inkjet printers to the market, it took a lot of trial and error and more than one company to complete the task. In fact, a number of companies are credited with making important contributions to inkjet technology and by 1990 inkjet printers began to become widely accepted. Today, inkjet printers are considered one of the most preferred printing methods. Currently, when you purchase an inkjet printer, you can buy a fairly reasonable printer for as little as £50. Did you know that when Hewlett Packard introduced the HP DeskJet Printer in 1988, it cost about a staggering £500?

Inkjet Cartridges

There are several reasons for the inkjet printer being so popular. One of the contributing factors in the success of inkjet printers is the printer ink cartridge. While each manufacturer recommends their own brand of printer ink cartridges, today there are many options such as re-manufactured ink cartridges, replacement ink cartridges or a compatible cartridge (such as those manufactured by Jet Tec) that work well for a host of name brand printers. In fact, you can save a great deal of money by getting inkjet refill kits and then refilling the empty ink cartridges yourself. Kudos to the development of printer ink cartridges, as they have made it possible to print quality prints on various sizes and types of paper, fabric and film without spending a fortune. Today, you can find a wide range of cartridges on the Internet safely and reliably. The biggest manufacturer of compatible ink cartridges in Europe is Jet Tec of Lincolnshire, who have been in the ink cartridge industry since 1989, and employ over 300 people at their award winning Jet Tec ink cartridge factory.

Laser Toner Cartridges Explained - UK Ink Supplies

Laser Toner Cartridges Explained - this article explains the difference and origin of dry and liquid laser toner.

Laser Toner is either a powdery or liquid substance that is used in toner cartridges which in turn is used by laser printers, Copiers and Faxes. Dry toner is by far more common in home and office printer systems than liquid toners.

Dry toner is mainly made up of heat sensitive plastic powder, normally a combination of acrylic and styrene. Pigments are added so that different colours can be produced by the toner. Finally, carriers are added so that the toner particles are charged and can be attracted to the right spots on the printed material.

Liquid toner is mainly made up of dye or pigmented acrylic resin particles. The added dye or pigmentation is added to form the colour of the toner. Added to this is an insulating liquid in which the resin particles are hosted.

Dry toners have the following advantagees compared to liquid toners:

  • No penetration of the paper fibre is necessary. This means that more types of materials can be used for printing compared to using a liquid toner which needs to penetrate the printed material.

  • No “drying” time before using the printed paper which means faster printing and no risk of accidently smearing the printout.

  • Better for the environment and people around the printer because no harmful solvents are used.

  • The colours are more stable.

  • Liquid toners are generally stronger in the following field compared to dry toners:

  • No warm up of the printer is needed which is the case with dry toner based printers.

  • Since the material is penetrated during the printing process, the printed text/image is much more firmly attached to the paper making it harder to fade.

  • In the manufacturing process of dry toners, the size of the individual particles that make up the toner goes from pellet size via grinding to becoming a powder. All toner needs to be tailored individually depending on which printer model its intended for. Depending on its formula, aspects such as melting point, flow rate and magnetic and thermal characteristics become different.

UK Ink Supplies for Jet Tec ink cartridges and laser toners

Buying printer toner cartridges at your local shop is a certain way of losing money. You can save up to 70% if you buy your toner cartridges online - compare toner prices and go with compatible cartridges instead of the originals.

    About Laser Toner Cartridges

Laser Toner Cartridges (often called Laser Toner or just Toners) are used in office machines such as Laser Printers, Fax Machines and Photocopiers and increasingly in home laser printers.

The basic role of the toner cartridge is to supply the machine with a dry powder or liquid substance called Laser Toner. If dry toner is used, the printer melts the toner by heat of the fuser thereby binding the toner to the paper and forming images and text.

Toner cartridges are heavier and significantly larger in size compared to ink cartridges. As with Ink Cartridges, different types of toner cartridges exist on the market:

  • Compatible Toner Cartridges are produced by third party manufacturers. Instead of producing new cartridges many often re-use empty toner cartridges and refill them.

The toner will be of good quality if you buy from well known and established online ink and toner stores, such as UK Ink Supplies. These stores most often have a written product guarantee and a generous refund policy.

We recommend you to use compatible toner cartridges. Our Compatible Cartridges article contains more information and advice on the subject.

  • OEM/Original Toner Cartridges are produced by the printer manufacturer themselves. This cartridge alternative is almost always more expensive compared to a compatible cartridge.

Remember that a 100% perfect printout is in the eye of the beholder and that the printer and paper quality is also very important to the result. Read more about OEM Cartridges.

  • However, it should be noted that both Compatible Cartridges and OEM cartridges can be of a Remanufactured origin. What this normally means is that old toner cartridges are reused and refilled with new toner after being examined, cleaned and tested. Read more about Remanufactured Cartridges.

You can learn more about how toner based office machines works by reading below articles:

Tips for Solving Simple Printing Problems - UK Ink Supplies

One of the most frustrating things is preparing to print a document and when you click the print button nothing happens or you are get on-screen error messages. Here are some useful tips for troubleshooting your inkjet printer problem and in many cases fix your printer:

Many inkjet printers have built-in diagnostics programs to help you troubleshoot. Typically, running a test page involves pressing a button or two as you turn on the printer. Many inkjet printers also use a combination of indicator lights to help you identify the cause of the problem.

Turn your inkjet printer on and off if there seems to be a problem. This is just like rebooting a computer; quite often when you turn the printer on and off it resets itself and gets things working more efficiently.

Manually cancel a print job by selecting "Printers" from the Windows Control Panel and double-click your printer's icon. You should be able to see a list of the current print jobs. Right-click the job you want to cancel and then select "Cancel Printing".

Printouts are lighter than expected; prints contain white spots or horizontal lines. These are signs that point to a blocked or clogged print head - especially if you haven’t used your inkjet printer for some time. You can clean the head by running the head cleaning tool in the printer’s utility section.

Vertical lines are jagged. This is usually a sign that the print head is out of alignment. There’s not much you can do to avoid this problem - all print heads become misaligned over time. You can usually recalibrate the heads using the alignment tool that comes in your printer’s utility section. This involves printing a pattern of lines on normal paper and choosing which pattern looks best.

Colours are missing from the print; prints lack shadows and contrast. Colours may print inconsistently even before your printer tells you to replace an ink cartridge. If the ink cartridges are low on ink when the problem occurs, try replacing them; this may improve the colour print quality.

If there’s enough ink but your print seems to be missing a particular colour, you are likely to have a blocked or clogged nozzle, so you will need to clean your print head. Colour quality can also be reduced if an ink cartridge has been in your printer for more than six months. Try replacing with a new cartridge.

Keeping the inside of the printer clean is important. You can use tweezers and/or compressed air to clear out any dust build-up and paper snippets from inside your inkjet printer.

Regularly check for updates to your printer's driver. If you are experiencing problems you can visit your inkjet printer manufacturer's website and download the latest printer driver. Once you have re-installed your printer software you will need to reboot your computer and then try printing again.

These are some common causes of poor print quality after a new ink cartridge has been installed into your printer:

    1. Allowing a printer to stand without an ink cartridge installed. To avoid this don't remove the empty ink cartridge until you are ready to install the replacement one.
    2. Extended use of the printer without cleaning the inkjet printer heads. If the printer is used frequently, then it is recommended to regularly clean the heads.
    3. Allowing the printer to stand for long periods of time without being used. Printers are similar to any other piece of machinery - if they are not used they "dry up" and need to be used on a regular basis to avoid this.

How do I identifing my inkjet printer or ink cartridge?

Jet Tec,jettec,jet-tec,ink cartridges, printer cartridges, inkjet, epson, canon,hp,lexmark, brother, samsung,Printer cartridges are not all the same. One set of ink cartridges will work with a group of printers, but not all printers. You must first identify the make and model number of your printer, or refer to your printer manual to identify the individual ink cartridge codes. If you already have cartridges in your printer, these will most likely have a reference number on them.

If you have an inkjet printer and know what brand it is - for example, Epson - you would click on the Epson ink cartridges link on the Inkjet Printer Cartridges for your printer page.

If the printer was an Epson Stylus SX200, you would click "Epson Stylus Series" to jump to the Epson Stylus Series models where you would find Epson Stylus SX200 and click on it to view all of the cartridges compatible with that printer, both original (OEM) and Jet Tec.

If you only know the cartridge codes - for example, T071140, T071240, T071340, T071440 - then you can type these into the search box in the centre of the top of this page.

    Find the cartridges you need

We work hard to make our web site easy to use. You'll find lists of all printers grouped by manufacturer on the following pages, or you can use the search box to look for your printer name or printer cartridge codes directly.

If you can't find your printer, cartridge or the brand that you're looking for, please contact us and we'll try to help you.

Types of printer cartridges available from UK Ink Supplies

A wide variety of different ink cartridges and laser toners are available on the UK market, all of which are available from UK Ink Supplies. These are the definitions of the types of cartridges available on the market today.

    OEM/Original
An original or OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) ink or toner cartridge is the branded product of the printer manufacturer. Therefore, if you have a Canon printer, the original toner cartridge will be manufactured by Canon. As you would expect the printer manufacturer will always encourage consumers to buy their own branded product. We do supply a large range or original products, but recommend Jet Tec ink cartridges and laser toners for both quality and value for money.

    Remanufactured
We supply Jet Tec and GreenTech remanufactured laser toners and ink cartridges. A remanufactured ink cartridge is a refilled original cartridge. Many printer manufacturers now encourage people to recycle ink cartridges and toner cartridges. These recycled cartridges are then remanufactured and refilled. Remanufactred Cartridges are cheaper and often contain a lot more ink than the originals. It is the environmentally friendlier solution that you can depend on to perform as well and last every bit as long as the original. The remanufacturing of toner and Inkjet cartridges has saved millions of cartridges from being dumped in refill sites, and brought cost savings to the consumers.

    Compatible
We supply Jet Tec compatible ink cartridges. Compatible cartridges are brand new cartridges supplied by an independent manufacturer. Compatible cartridges are manufactured to the same standards as original cartridges but are normally significantly cheaper. Any Compatible cartridges supplied to you by us are 100% guaranteed for a year. Furthermore, many Jet Tec compatible ink cartridges are designed to print up to 100% more than the Original ink cartridge!

Jet Tec: Print More. Pay Less
Jet Tec is Europe's leading manufacturer of compatible and recycled printer products. Jet Tec has been established for over 25 years at its UK manufacturing base and is renowned for the quality, reliability and patented technology of their products. At UKInkSupplies.com we only stock products that we believe represent the best value and quality on the market, we have nearly a decade of experience selling Jet Tec products throughout Europe and firmly believe that switching to Jet Tec will change the way you think about printing.

    Jet Tec: Extra Life
Most Jet Tec cartridges supplied for Canon and Epson printers offer unique technology called "Extra Life". With many ink cartridges it is common to find that the printer reports the cartridge as empty whilst there is still ink in the cartridge. Extra Life technology ensures that every last drop of the ink in the cartridge is utilised - giving you more prints and better value. All Jet Tec cartridges are guaranteed to print at least the same amount as the original cartridge.

Jet Tec: Better For The Environment
Jet Tec adhere to the highest environmental processes in the production and design of their cartridges. Many of today's manufacturers of printer cartridges are based in China, with the long distance transportation involved there are huge volumes of greenhouse gases emitted. Jet Tec products are manufactured in the UK and therefore travel a shorter distance. Combine this with the UKInkSupplies.com commitment of using land and sea based transport to transfer our goods between our distribution centres and you can be certain that carbon emissions are kept to an absolute minimum.

    Jet Tec: Unique Patented Technology
Jet Tec cartridges may look different from the original cartridge supplied by your printer manufacturer. This is because the technology built in to the cartridge is unique and patented by Jet Tec. The cartridges are guaranteed to deliver the same number of prints as the original cartridge and in some cases can deliver significantly more prints than the original. All the cartridges are manufactured in the UK at a custom built facility with the highest quality assurance and manufacturing processes implemented.

Jet Tec: Bring Your Pictures To Life
You want to save money and you still want that photo of your granddaughters first birthday or your son's graduation to look as dazzling as the moment they were taken when you share them with friends and family. Jet Tec cartridges match the original manufacturers guidelines for light-fastness ensuring that your precious moments stay as true as your memories for a lifetime.
